Los Angeles-based producer Greg Broussard is the man behind pioneering hip-hop/electro fusion artist the Egyptian Lover. He started out as a DJ in Los Angeles with Uncle Jamms Army doing dances at the L.A. Sports Arena. Egyptian Lover records didn’t start appearing until several years after the New York and Miami electro scenes were already in full swing, by the mid-’80s Egyptian Lover cuts like “Egypt, Egypt” were standards among club DJs, particularly in the breakdance scene.
Musically, clubbers are never quite sure what to expect from Djoko’s performances, other than they will be on point and hugely entertaining.
William Djoko’s entire persuasion emits pure charisma. While his sets are drenched in both groove-laden house and rugged, motor-city techno his productions don the same eclectic charm: flirting between playful, cut for the club and trippy, mischievous percussions.
