Governor Kemp has announced that bars and nightclubs can open starting June 1, 2020 with “39 mandatory measures to ensure patron well-being”. We are more than pleased to announce that Tongue & Groove is open and begin our Social DisDancing.
In order to do so, we must comply with a reduced capacity of 35% of our normal legal occupancy. We will be implementing a strict reservation policy that ensures our ability to meet these guidelines.
Of course, we will be regularly and thoroughly sanitizing all surfaces throughout the night and adhering to strict social distancing as well as all safety protocol. We will also be screening our staff and taking the temperature of all patrons entering the club.
A few additional policies will also be in place. There will be NO guest list/comp admissions. We hope that all our loyal and valued regular customers understand that now more than ever, ya gotta pay to play. Having been closed for more than three months hasn’t been easy mentally, physically, or financially for anyone. For T&G to open back up with limited capacity, continues to put strain on the business. We expect this to be temporary, but with the restrictions placed on us, we have to make up some lost ground.
GROOVE DYNASTY
Over twenty-five years of nightclubbing 1994 – 2020
This November, Tongue & Groove will celebrate their 26th Anniversary with an over-the-top celebration. Two decades is a long time for any type of business to remain viable, but it’s virtually unheard of in the nightclub world. In an industry measured in moments, and is known for breaking bad, T&G has broken the cardinal rule by not only keeping their doors open, but remaining “liked” by cynical locals, and not just on Facebook.
ATLANTA — The original Tongue & Groove opened in 1994 in the former Buckhead Village. As NEWSWEEK magazine so aptly described the club, “it’s named for the wooden floors and what happens on them”. Named Best new nightclub by ATLANTA magazine at the time, it has been featured in The New York Times, USA Today, The Robb Report, Atlanta magazine, DJ Times, and Nightclub & Bar magazine amongst others, and most recently on TMZ network television and online at E Entertainment news.
Thirteen years of continuous operation in the same location earned them a reputation for delivering a lasting, world-class nightlife experience. Tongue & Groove (T&G) attributes their ongoing success to staying relevant on a number of fronts in the marketplace. A constant evolution in music has seen DJs over the years play dance music ranging from pop to techno to hip hop to EDM, and Latin salsa to swing. A dress code that at one time required sports coats for gentlemen, now acknowledges that jeans and sneakers are fashion forward. The constant upkeep and redesign of the interior, coupled with a desire to stay on the leading edge of technology, keeps the club fresh. In the true spirit of hospitality, a team mentality with regards to staffing couples 20-year veterans with hot young rookies behind the bar, sexy social media mavens serving cocktails, and good coaching from behind the scenes.
BRAND NEW GROOVE
The club was displaced by developers in July 2007, but it would take more than a wrecking ball to keep them down. T&G created the buzz again in 2008 by opening the new Tongue & Groove in Lindbergh City Center, just off Piedmont Road in Buckhead. Their 8,600 square-foot Tongue & Groove is an updated and a larger version of the first, again with two rooms creating two distinctly different environments. We pulled out all the stops to ensure that this Tongue & Groove is bigger, better and more beautiful. Featuring an electro- voice 16 element line- array sound system powered by tour grade amplification. The hydra- plane generator utilizes sophisticated technology to provide smooth and consistent sound throughout the club. 18 Torrent X-rays headline the lightshow, with laser, strobes…
In 2012, The Joint debuted as a redesign of T&G’s second room. More organic in nature, with reclaimed wood and upcycled materials, this 1500 SF space allows for an alternative musical format and is perfect for smaller private parties.
Before dinner, after-dinner and late into the night, Tongue & Groove caters to an upscale crowd that enjoys fashion, music, art and nightlife. Its’ current location – just steps from MARTA and situated between major thoroughfares connecting Midtown and Buckhead –T&G remains a staple on the scene and shall for years to come.
