Description
The band which identify themselves as Evergreen Far Eastern romantics, was founded in Vladivostok (Russian biggest port on the Pacific coast) by Ilya Lagutenko.
Since then, they have played gigs across the globe: from Siberia to the Baltics, Mongolia to Greenland, Shanghai open-airs to St Petersburg’s Palace Square. Being a successful band, they are still fresh, hungry, and in search of new musical discoveries.
When, in 1997 the 1st album “Morskaya” was released, everyone who was seeking new revelations in Russian music, became obsessed with “Mumiy-mania” and
got addicted to the album. The story began in London, at Alaska Studio under the Waterloo Station bridge, where the album was first recorded. Afterwards Mumiy Troll (Мумий Тролль) rapidly became one of Russia’s most popular and influential bands. They were the first to appear on Russian MTV, represented Russia at Eurovision, and have won every award going in their native land. Furthermore, they are often called “Russian Rolling Stones” — and with every gig and tour they prove it.
In 2016 the band released their 13th studio album “Malibu Alibi”. The English-language “Malibu Alibi” was recorded during the band’s round-the-world trip on a 19-century sailing ship in locations as diverse as LA, Moscow, China, Singapore and South Africa.
During the European tour to support the album,
they played sold-out gigs in Germany, UK, Ireland, Switzerland, Czech Republic and Baltic States followed by the North American tour.
In 2016 at the 69th Cannes Film Festival Mumiy Troll presented their movie “Vladivostok Vacation”, filmed during band’s round-the-world trip.
Being the participants of famous festivals and music conferences in different countries (SXSW, Culture Collide, Zandari, Mucon, Sound City, Visual Japan Summit, etc.), in 2013 they founded their own showcase festival “Vladivostok Rocks” (V-ROX) which is held in Vladivostok annually and has become a massive cultural phenomenon recognized by NY Times as “A small
Pacific Woodstock...”. In 2017 the festival was held for the 5th time and gathered the audience more than 120 000 people during 3 days.
In 2016 Ilya Lagutenko became a music curator for the annual “Piens Festival” (Milk Festival) in Riga (Latvia). In collaboration with UCLA (University of California, Los Angeles) he has established “Far From Moscow Festival”. In December 2016 it was held for the first time: an alternative brand of Russian culture in film, music, cuisine, fashion, and comics was presented
in Los Angeles.
In 2017 the band celebrated the 20th anniversary for their
honored “Morskaya” album. During the 20 years (since
1997) it was re-released sev- eral times. Several million cop-
ies were sold — it became an absolute record for Russian indie rock band. In Spring 2017 their “Morskaya.20” concert tour started — there were sold-out concerts in St Petersburg, Moscow, Sochi, Vladivostok.
In collaboration with Gosha Rubchinskiy Mumiy Troll released a limited capsule collection exclusively at Dover Street Market London, New York, Ginza and Singapore, Paris Trading Museum
and Comme des Garçons Seoul shop. The collaboration highlights
the mutual respect and under- standing for each other’s craft, Russian heritage and the long-time friendship between Mumiy
Troll frontman Ilya Lagutenko and Gosha Rubchinskiy. By the way, Kanye West and ASAP Rocky are great admirers of Gosha as well.
In December 2017, by the numerous fans’ requests, the band played an additional concert in Moscow. The pro- gram of jubilee concerts consisted of Mumiy Troll’s super hits, such as Vladivostok 2000 (the first video that aired on MTV Russia), Utekay, Devochka from “Morskaya” album, songs from every MT album, including Tak Nado, Dolphins, Ranetka, and new songs from the upcoming album. During their North American tour in 2018, they played 8 sold-out gigs followed by several sold-outs in Australia.
In the beginning of 2018 Mumiy Troll released their new album “EAST X NORTHWEST“ recorded in Los Angeles.
In November 2018 for the first time, Mumiy Troll unveiled a new course for the band “EAST X NW” in Vladivostok followed by an announcement of the world tour. The new show “Morskaya X NW” includes hits from the legendary albums, such as “Morskaya” and “Ikra”, and from the latest album “EAST X NW”. As a special gift to long-time fans, the band will play rarely performed live albums “Tochno rtut aloe” and “SOS Matrosu”. The show has been on tour in the multiple regions of Russia, from Sochi the city of Winter Olympics to Siberia and the Far East.
The first half of 2019 Mumiy Troll celebrated during the series of sold out gigs in Europe, visiting the UK, France, Ireland, Switzerland, Germany, Netherlands, Denmark, Luxembourg, and the Czech Republic.
Now the band is coming back to North America — from October to November Mumiy Troll will perform at
the historic venues demonstrating the modern sound of the favourite songs. Some gigs will feature spe-
cial effects show by the partner team “Sila Sveta”, who worked on an unforgettable show “Morskaya.20” for Mumiy Troll, after which “Sila Svetla” was invited by Drake to participate in the development of his new show “Scorpion”.
