The Scumfrog is perhaps THE iconic Burner DJ - famed for his sunrise set at Robot Heart amongst others. He has been a household name in the underground Dance Music scene since 2000, known for many traits: music production, musicianship, DJing, featured vocalist, music coach, radio host, and remixing. From his timeless early works like Watersong and We Love You, to dubbed-out remixes of songs by mainstream artists like Kylie Minogue, Annie Lennox, Missy Elliott, to collaborations with David Bowie, Sting, and Cyndi Lauper (resulting in a Grammy nomination), he has been featured on virtually every prominent independent Dance label, from Bedrock to 1605, from Positiva to Knee Deep In Sound. With his roots firmly planted in the experimental side of Dance Music and Electronica, The Scumfrog has toured the world many times over with his unique DJ sets. Back home, he also hosts his own club nights called M.B.T.S. (Most Below The Surface) where he usually plays the entire night, and (we love this - given our upcoming Techno-meets-Classical event - he is in production with a new project featuring classical musicians).
Aidan Doherty single-handedly exemplifies some of the best things about London nightlife. He created Warm Up in 2013, a techno and electronica night that has grown into a hugely respected dance community that unites many people on a monthly basis. The reputation has not only been founded on superb artist bookings but on the consistent high standard of Warm Up’s resident DJs playing ground-breaking sets. Aidan’s career as a DJ has grown since developing Warm Up where, as the main resident DJ, he has had the opportunity to showcase a genre of music that hasn’t previously had a platform in London. Aidan’s dedication to the art of DJing is reflected in his constantly evolving, forward thinking and widely respected sets. His aim is to create musical experiences that evoke positive emotional feelings by playing emotive music that has the ability to really touch people on a higher level. For him DJing is about telling a story; a journey with a beginning, middle and an end. Aidan truly enjoys engaging with the crowd and taking them on what he calls “an emotional roller coaster ride” that delves into genres of deep, progressive and melodic techno and electronica. His sounds of deep warm harmonic soundscapes set against atmospheric and full rounded base lines has earned him a loyal following amongst the ever growing Warm Up community.
James Fish learned to DJ in Istanbul nightclubs and organised undergrounds with friends on rooftops and patios. Later, he moved to Berlin, where he coordinated open-air renegades with Funktion One sound away from prying eyes. Over four years in San Francisco, James became a fixture in the city's dance music scene, regularly playing venues like Public Works, Monarch, the Midway, and The Great Northern, in addition to dozens of undergrounds, festivals, and campouts. In 2016, James took over as resident DJ of the monthly Burner series, Tutu Tuesday (following former resident atish.) Recently, James moved back to Berlin, where he can be found working on his first original productions, as well as organising and performing in the local Berlin burner community. He is also a designer of experiences; as he writes, “Aside from DJing, my passion is creating experiences for others. For me, this is a balance of good people, careful music programming, and thoughtful experience design: interactive performances, art, and even the little stuff like signs. I want participants to never break the moment.” And he has a passion for the transcendental power of immersive experience - which led him to co-found Skyfish; they aim to “Expand your mind, ears, and dancing feet by way of knowledge, human interaction, and mysticism.”
Sturge is a regular on the main stages at Burning Man, and plays across the London underground scene, recently sharing the stage alongside Yokoo, Jan Blomqvist, Chaim, Sabo, Goldcap, Britta, Unders, SOLVANE, Yor Kultura, Be Svendsen, Eduardo Castillo, and Rey&Kjavik - and @The Scumfrog, whom he kindly first introduced us to. He’s had a long & fruitful relationship with Dusty Love Tribe, and is now signed to Pachamama label, with some huge gigs signed up for 2019, as well as recent beautiful sets on Berlin's Radio Fritz, Pure Ibiza Radio and Frisky Radio under his belt. Born in Belfast but now based in London. Sturge grew up in the late 90s in the dark halls of legendary techno institutions like Shine in Belfast and the Arches in Glasgow. Still a lingering influence in his largely melodic techno and deep house sets, his roots occasionally come back to surprise on the dance floor. Not adverse to playing any genre, emotion and connection with the music is paramount in whatever he selects.
QQ was the first female underground techno DJ to emerge from China. She studied piano at Beijing’s elite Central Conservatory of Music, graduating top of her class. She then toured China, performing with her father, before moving into television, where she rose to be the director and producer of a number of TV series for a leading Asian TV network. In 2004, she returned to her great passion for music, this time as a DJ - going straight to the top of China’s electronic music scene with her house and techno productions. Her profound knowledge, wide-ranging musical taste and technical proficiency have enabled her to meet the varying demands of festivals and clubs, private parties and film premieres, art launches and fashion shows - always with one clear goal in mind: that everyone has a great time. In high demand at China’s top Underground club Lantern, QQ also regularly plays at major outdoor events, including recent appearances at the Great Wall Festival, “Strawberry”, “Modern Sky” and “Intro” and the International Regatta opening party. She has played with many international DJs, including Dubfire, DJ Krush, Infected Mushroom, Joris Voorn, Dirty Vegas, Chris Liebing, Carl Craig and DJ Hell - and as far afield as South America, Australia and Africa.
