Fronted by Nigerian singer Eno Williams, Ibibio Sound Machine is a clash of African and electronic elements inspired in equal measure by the golden era of West-African funk & disco and modern post-punk & electro.
The band’s self-titled debut album was released in 2014 on Soundway Records. The follow-up, 'Uyai', was released in 2017 on Merge Records.
Ibibio Sound Machine is Eno Williams (vocals), Alfred Kari Bannerman (guitar), Anselmo Netto (percussion), Jose Joyette (drums), Derrick McIntyre (bass), Tony Hayden (trombone, synth), Scott Baylis (trumpet, synth), and Max Grunhard (saxophone, synth).
Ghost & the City
With spectral grooves, caressing textures and luminescent melodic hooks, Ghost & the City emerges from Oakland’s vibrant underground music scene. The ensemble melds the alluring vocals of soulstress Kia Fay, the lyrically charged keyboard/synth work of Ash Maynor, the elastic beats of drummer Will Jenkins and the trumpet stylings of Ross Eustis into a sensuous trip-hop jazz sound. Rapidly gaining notice as a signature West Coast musical force, Ghost & the City continues to hone a sound that embraces a multiplicity of styles while melting away from superficial labels. 2019 will see the release of a handful of new originals and remixes from their recent TIME EP with a wide array of global collaborations.
