Event Details"The eyes are not here
There are no eyes here
In this valley of dying stars
In this hollow valley
This broken jaw of our lost kingdoms..."
"...a kingdom without a throne..."
Volume II Begins Saturday, November 10th, 10PM-4AM, shedding its old skin to fit once again inside the hallowed halls of the beloved Bossa Nova Civic Club on a new night, with a new transformation, and a sickening and sinister techno line-up meant to leave your body aching in the morning. FREE BEFORE MIDNIGHT, $10 after.
UUN (LIVE) [DETROIT]: Detroit-based techno alchemist Uun's sonic arsenal can best be described as just that: an artillery of dance floor weapons, ripe with thunderous kick drums--some driving, some broken-beat-- and sizzling laser-tuned percussion, all interwoven with spellbinding drones, evocative auditory incantations and conjurings from the primal well.
In late 2016, Uun created his own imprint as a platform to showcase the diversity of his productions. Titled Ego Death, the label explores themes of existentialism, duality, and what it means to be an artist in the modern era. Now on it's fifth release, each strives to create a unique and varied atmosphere. Although he has been releasing and performing since 2012, 2018 has seen Uun's profile rise substantially, with releases on Mord, Dynamic Reflection, and Suara, as well Ego Death. The live set he'll be featuring will be showcasing a broad spectrum of this incredible impressive body of work.
JUANA [DC]: Birthed from a tribe of opera singers and children of the soul mother from the universal vibrations of the earth spirit, Juana grew up on a steady diet of smooth jazz, jheri curl funk, los discos, and prog rock, which shaped her sensibilities immeasurably. She began collecting records at age 4 and stealing tapes and CDs from Tower Records at around 14. Juana has been a Washington DC staple since 2004, although the past two years have opened up many new avenues for her--joining forces with numerous local heavy hitters in DC, and linking up with TechnoFist, Void Archive, and Select DC as part of the quickly growing Sequence party series. Juana has recently been making waves throughout the NYC party sphere with slap-happy, grooving techno sets at only the best of the best techno parties and establishments in town: Unter, Bound, Bossa Nova Civic Club, to name a few.
AUSPEX [NYC]: Dominion resident and forefather Auspex returns for another Descent down the garden path as Volume II kicks in to high gear. Fresh off the heels of a whirlwind summer season and the limited Dominion Vol. I summer series, he also debuted at legendary NYC party The Bunker, threw down the gauntlet at Fourth World and crashed the Berlin party scene for the first time in August with a rowdy closing set at the fabled STAUB party. Just over the horizon is another Berlin venue debut for the New Year and a smattering of production work crashing down for your ears to delight in. He'll be bookending the night with waves of sound pummeling you with disorienting textures, driving rhythms, brooding synths and psychedelic breakdowns.
"...we've been waiting for you..."
The eyes reappear
As the perpetual star
Of death's twilight kingdom
The hope only
Of empty men."
-T.S. Eliot, "The Hollow Men"
