ALKHEMY and Bossa Nova Civic Club present Fundraver 2: El Puente. In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, and taking place on the eve of Indigenous People's Day, 11 locals will play with a mission to inspire and nurture leaders for peace and justice. The night's proceeds will be donated to a local nonprofit organization called, El Puente.
Founded in 1982 by Luis Garden Acosta, a former Young Lords Party member, El Puente arose from a need for change when an overwhelming wave of violence swept through South Williamsburg, a neighborhood that was widely known, at the time, as the "teenage gang capital of New York City". El Puente focuses its efforts on community strengthening and leadership development for young people and their families by bridging the worlds of health, education and the arts through activism and community empowerment.
El Puente has since grown to operate 6 multifaceted Leadership Centers in North Brooklyn, including its Bushwick location, where participation in the arts is an essential factor in how they educate and organize the community.
This event aims to give back to the community of Bushwick, by continuing to empower others through the form of art, at the iconic techno landmark of Brooklyn, Bossa Nova. Bridging (Puente = Bridge, but no pun intended) the gap between two different generations of the same neighborhood.
