Radric Davis, known as Gucci Mane, started off his career by composing rhymes and writing poetry as a child in elementary school in Birmingham, Alabama. He later moved to Atlanta with his single mom, where he really debuted his career. By the time high school started, Gucci Mane had already spent time in a recording studio. The glamour and fashion sense of rappers like Big Daddy Kane motivated him to put words to music. His debut single, "Black Tee," was a hit on the local scene. In May 2005, Big Cat Records released his debut album, Trap House, which peaked at the number one spot on Billboard's Heatseekers chart. Throughout Gucci’s career, trap has gone from a Southern hip-hop microculture to one of the most lucrative sounds in the world. And his prolific catalogue and slew of successful proteges have long established his legendary status, but following his release from a three-year imprisonment in 2016, 2017 was his most successful year yet. He’s been on at least 10 different charting singles on the Billboard Hot 100 over the past nine months alone, including his first number one with Rae Sremmurd’s “Black Beatles,” and his highest-charting release as a lead artist with the single “I Get the Bag,” off his new album Mr. Davis.
