Description
The English Beat Feat Ranking Roger will not be performing with The Selecter on Nov 11 at Mezzanine. In early August Ranking Roger was taken to hospital with a suspected mini stroke. Roger is recuperating at home but the band have cancelled all forthcoming live shows in the UK & USA. The show on Nov 11 at Mezzanine will go ahead with The Selecter performing an extended show with special guest Rhoda Dakar - vocalist with TheBodysnatchers & The Specials plus local Artist XXX. Thank you for your understanding and we wish Roger all the very best for a speedy recovery.
Rhoda Dakar will be filling in.
The Selecter teamed up with The English Beat Feat. Ranking Roger last year in the UK & Europe to give fans a rare treat, hitting the road together for a number of co-headline shows. Originally a six-date tour, due to phenomenal demand they played nearly 40 dates together, including sold out shows at London's iconic Roundhouse and Amsterdam's Melkweg, selling nearly 40,000 tickets. Life-long friends, they are two of the main bands to come out of 2 Tone - a crucial musical and cultural movement which is still as relevant today as it was over 30 years ago.
The hugely successful pairing is now continuing into 2018 and heading worldwide with tours of Australia, New Zealand, Scandinavia and Germany already complete and a co-headline tour announced in the USA in October and November 2018. Both bands will play full sets of their many hits and more each night with a joint encore.
The English Beat Feat. Ranking Roger released their spectacular fourth album Bounce (the first in over 30 years) in September 2016. The album shows off every gleaming aspect of one of the most musically diverse bands to come out of the multiracial, multicultural explosion that remade British pop from 1979 onwards. Joining Ranking Roger (also a founder member of General Public) in the revitalised band is his son Ranking Junior AKA Matthew Murphy a powerhouse MC who brings to the band an update on the toasting that made Ranking Roger such a pivotal part of the original Beat. The same energy that drove the hit singles of the 80s: Mirror in the Bathroom, Too Nice To Talk To, Can't Get Used To Losing You and Hands off She's Mine, is here again on Bounce and the band are currently working on a brand new studio album.
The Selecter is led by their iconic frontwoman Pauline Black and co-fronted by original member Arthur 'Gaps' Hendrickson. The anarchic passion that fuelled Selecter gigs during the 2 Tone era is still there, except the pair (Pauline & Gaps) are more driven than ever. Their confidence is sky-high and they're also writing the best songs of their career, which is saying something given the enduring popularity of hits like Three Minute Hero, Missing Words, Too Much Pressure and On My Radio. They released new studio album Daylight in October 2017 - with their most urgent, politically engaged and purely uplifting music since the days of Too Much Pressure and Celebrate The Bullet. The Selecter toured in the USA in Summer 2017 with Rancid and Dropkick Murphys and Pauline Black recently toured in Latin America as special guest with Damon Albarn's Gorillaz.
Both The English Beat Feat. Ranking Roger and The Selecter are releasing Live Albums in June 2018 from their sold-show at London's Roundhouse. They are releasing their concerts on CD/DVD, Heavyweight Double Vinyl and Limited Edition Coloured Splatter Vinyl both with a Bonus DVD.
