Jazz Mafia is the quintessential San Francisco sound; combining original music with Classic Hip-Hop, Jazz, Electronica, R&B, Soul and Afro-Cuban styles - a collection of the Bay Area’s most talented musicians, singers and MC's. This collective was founded in 2000 and is led by Adam Theis.
As Jazz Mafia’s director, Adam has assembled over 100 different live projects over the past 17 years and led/co-led dozens of acclaimed bands including: The Shotgun Wedding Quintet (Live/Hip-Hop Crossover), Realistic Orchestra (Futuristic Big Band), Western Territory Project (Classical/Jazz Crossover), Subharmonic (Electro/Jazz), Brass Mafia (Brass Band), Crossroads (Dusty Funk), Cosa Nostra (Acoustic Heavy Metal) and the 50-Piece Jazz Mafia Symphony.
Theis has produced and co-written music for notable artists such as Lyrics Born, Zion-I, Rebelution, Latyrx, Galactic, Ledesi, Blackalicious and many more. As a sideman, Adam and his horn section have created interesting collaborations with a wide range of top-level artists including: Bobby McFerrin, Roy Ayers, Chali 2na, Booker T. Jones, Spearhead, Zigaboo Modeliste, Zap Mama, Eric Lindell, Dead Winter Carpenters, KRS One, Wax Tailor, The New Master Sounds, Peter Rowan, Coultrain, J Boogie’s Dubtronic Science, The Velvetteen and dozens more.
