The idea to create a safe space to explore creativity beyond art as a commodity is the genesis of why Spot Lite was established. Spot Lite’s mission statement is “To foster a home of collaboration and creativity in Detroit for the enjoyment of all people.” As a throwback to when galleries were used as late-night dance venues and places for underground communities to flourish is why Spot Lite is a gallery and not a club.
