Wasabi is a mastermind in mixing, blending. This DJ/Producer hails from Santa Marta, Colombia and New Jersey now resides in Miami, has had his hands on the turntables since adolescence. He not only had the innate understanding of the actual skill of djing, but also the uncanny ability to excite a crowd of any size. Wasabi realized music has been part of his family for generations, as it runs deep in his blood and his heritage. Music became a major influence in his life, and opened his appetite to develop his own style in mixing and blending music, which led him in another direction of sound.
In December 2012, Wasabi birthed his first track called “Flauta y Fuego” (Flute and Fire), a passionate expression of roots of Colombia, with an original set by Master Flutist Mr. Oscar Romero with sampled vocals by the legendary Toto La Momposina. In sharing this single track with the Grammy Award winner Louie Vega, in his full support, led to his first original single track being added to the Vega Records Catalog www.vegarecords.net. In November 2013, Wasabi was chosen by the Rhythm Foundation (www.rhythmfoundation.com) to perform at a folkloric live concert honoring the musical roots of Colombia featuring the queen of Cumbia, Grammy award winner “ToTo La Momposina”.
Wasabi has residency experience at Vagabond in Downtown, ICON Viceroy Hotel, [ADD] Red Bar Gallery in Brickell, Wood Tavern in Wynwood, and Catalina Hotel Rooftop Pool South Beach. He currently is creating a EP that be on Fania Records (www.fania.com), a historic label recognized as the authentic Latin Motown, that will include original Remixes coming out in 2014, collaborating with upcoming musicians, and free styling in production. With years of musical knowledge, he integrates his Colombian roots, mastering, remixing, editing, and to add a new sound to the genre’s of Tribal House, Hip-Hop, R&B, and EDM (Electronic Dance Music). His goal is to excite the elements of a party to another momentum with these upcoming imaginative tracks, to raise the bar for other DJs to bring back the use of original musicsianship in production. He remains focused on evoking passionate responses from live audiences to harmonize with the body.
