“Traveling the world, living in the studio, staying on top with cutting edge music and appeal is a 24 hour lifestyle, it’s a 24 hour party, its what I do, and I don’t know it any other way..” (Steven Lee)
Sort of how it’s been for this NYC youngster. One half of the massive Lee-Cabrera team who’s 2004 “Shake It” record sought record of the year honors and champed a #10 National Pop Chart Selection with “Shake It” (Move a Little Closer). Signed with Ministry of Sound world-wide and a regular on Pete Tong’s Essential Selection Steven Lee (Lee-Cabrera) in his short 5 years has tasted about all this business can offer. With regular visits every weekend to Spain, Russia, Asia, & South America, Lee continues to push the envelope musically & on the road. Now on his own and taking a hiatus from the Lee-Cabrera name Steven Lee is finding his own creative ear in the studio both solo and together with other top artists in the industry. “Seems like yesterday it was “Shake It”, now 5 years later and touring all over the planet its time to get back in the studio and achieving even bigger things on my own, Lee explains.” In 2009 “Shake It” received the 5 year anniversary treatment teaming up with Thomas Gold & Tara McDonald and again topped the charts world-wide. A true test to a record that will never go away!
Steven Lee received his first taste in the business at the infamous Strictly Rhythm, and it wasn’t long before Mr. Lee found himself a home with the label both as a DJ mixing their famous compilations but also as a signed artist at SR with the legendary Albert Cabrera forming the Lee Cabrera tag. “X surly marked the spot” with these two producers, as their first original production, “Shake It” (Move A Little Closer) was the #1 hit and a 2004 bomb still recognized as one of the biggest records in dance music today! “Shake It” was even awarded the honors at the World Music Awards as it was licensed for their theme song in 2004 Live in Monte Carlo.
Where do you go when your first record goes #1? “You keep the foot on the gas pedal and put out ten more hits” Lee says and from there the hits continued with follow up’s like “Special”, Phase 2 “Voodoo Love”, Exhibit A “G-Minor” which all landed again with the Cr2 label and were played by every DJ across the globe. “I Watch You” a big Radio summer tune that was signed to Ministry of Sound. From there MOS saw the Lee Cabrera talent and signed the name to their label exclusively.
Turning The Page in 2001 ” as he calls it, Lee attacked the studio and turned out (10) new Steven Lee singles with the first of the bunch being signed to premiere European labels starting with a killer remake of Asia “Heat of the Moment” that was on just about every 2010 Pacha compilation and saw Top 40 on the Billboard Chart was released with the PACHA brand and a remake of the Tears For Fears-Everybody Wants to Rule the World which went Top 5 in Billboard Charts. His latest singles include, “FEVER” and features Sam Obernik out on EGO Music in Italy and is now #8 on the UK Buzz Chart, and new collaborations with Planet Funk/Deepest Blue front man Joel Edwards titled "You" an already favorite for Pete Tong & Radio 1 and the follow up "Shadow" that has "Hit Record" written all over.
Most recently Lee has teamed up with best mate DJ/Producer Carl Kennedy who has had a string of successful records and prolific residencies and they have created the WASTED YOUTH brand/label & NYC nights.
"We've made the Hits, We've traveled the World, We've made the money, and have had our tastes at Fame but its now time to team up and create something of a legacy that will change the NYC and Global DJ scene and engulf the world with the music we both have developed over our years.."
Wasted Youth the label has just been picked up by none other than Strictly Rhythm for full financing and distribution and will host several global Wasted Youth residencies that will display the Steven Lee & Carl Kennedy Wasted Youth sounds while bringing the new Generation of rising Producers & DJ’s with them.
Notorious for his seamless precision & entertaining style of Djing, Lee has found himself at the forefront of some of the biggest clubs in the world and a feature on many YouTube links. His infectious and technical ability has earned him the nickname “Baby Morillo” by many of his followers. “ I love the big show and love twisting a few thousand people up in knots and causing mayhem on the dance floor” Lee has just finished his first full Ibiza season with residencies at Space and was also called in to play the opening of “Super Club” Privilege.
