Description
Sleepy & Boo play electronic music of all shapes and sizes, rocking rooms big and small across New York City and beyond. They love thick drums, big basslines, hypnotic grooves and tripped-out sci-fi synthesizers, and know how to put it all together. Forget sticking to just one genre — as DJs, they are known for their diversity and their knack for picking tracks from across the musical spectrum. Whether taking the crowd on a twisted late night excursion, or pushing peak-hour mayhem, Sleepy & Boo never fail to turn a dancefloor inside out.
From their home base in New York, Sleepy & Boo have become preeminent players in the Big Apple’s dynamic underground music scene. For close to eight years, they’ve been the resident DJs and driving force behind Basic NYC, their celebrated Saturday night throwdown. Launched at the Sullivan Room in 2004, the party features Sleepy & Boo playing alongside a who’s who of the world’s most important DJs, all performing to a packed house of energetic music lovers. It’s an event that’s recognized for its diversity, with partygoers treated to a huge range of talent and sounds (everyone from Kaskade to Jeff Mills have been guests over the years). Named as New York’s “Best Dance Party 2009” by New York Magazine, Basic NYC has become an international destination for clubbers eager to catch world-class DJs in an intimate spaces.
In 2010, Sleepy & Boo launched their own headlining residency at New York’s renowned nightclub Cielo. Their monthly “Sleepy & Boo + Friends” party features the duo playing an extended headlining set of cutting edge underground music on the club’s pristine Funktion One sound system, with eager music-lovers packing the club’s dancefloor every second Friday of the month. Coming up on it’s second anniversary, the party has become a showcase event for their range as DJs, merging the newest dancefloor tunes with lost classics.
They have also been regular fixtures at District 36, the Big Apple’s newest super club, which opened in late 2010. At the midtown venue with its already-legendary Gary Stewart sound system, they have presented Basic NYC parties and opened for a huge range of international guests.
Apart from their own events, the duo is consistently DJing at the best parties and venues in New York, and work regularly with the city’s most important event organizers. They’ve played at the first two installments Made Event’s Electric Zoo Festival; the inaugural edition of the Dance.Here.Now. festival at Governor’s Island; performed at some of LiveNations’ massive Roseland events (including the historic six-date deadmau5 shows in October) and have rocked dancefloors around the world in England, Germany, Japan and Spain (including sets at Ibiza’s legendary Space, Amnesia and Pacha clubs). Recent regional dates have included appearances at DC’s U Street Music Hall, Monteal’s Velvet speakeasy, Philadelphia’s brand-new Rumor nightclub and Connecticut’s Room 960. Sleepy & Boo are also regular fixtures at the annual Miami Winter Music Conference and Ultra events, where they have presented their own daytime outdoor events at the Beach Plaza Hotel, and spoken as panelists at the 2011 conference itself.
Sleepy & Boo have worked tirelessly to bring quality, cutting-edge dance music to New York’s clubbers, both through their own DJ sets, and the events they organize. With their S&B Sessions podcast up on iTunes, their own original productions being cooked up in the studio, and plans for a digital label in the works, Sleepy & Boo continue to look for new ways to share their enthusiasm and love for this music and culture.
