Growing up in New York City, Rio Pena at the age 15 was spending his evenings going to night clubs like the Sound Factory, Tunnel, Palladium, Limelight & Octagon. While in college, Rio began promoting for nightclubs in NYC, which eventually led to him producing many private celebrity events. With his promoting experience and his other career as a digital graphic artist known as Buddah Blas, Rio took over creative control for The Rhythm Freak Records which was founded by his brother DJ/Producer Armand Pena. Rio along with his brother began throwing their own record label parties. These annual events became so massive that they began to grow a life of their own, they founded We R Miami Productions to manage them.
DJing was an accident for Rio. While promoting some of his parties, on occasion a DJ would get out of control and he would jump in the DJ booth to take over. To his surprise he would receive praise from his peers and the club goers over his DJ sets. Whether performing at nightclubs or at festivals (Welcome 2 Miami: Beach Party Festival, Electric Beach Festival, H50 Pool Parties, Sexy & Wet Pool Parties, Nikki Beach Miami, Nikki Midtown NYC, Clevelander and Gansevoort Rooftop Events) and with the support of many of his DJ/Producers friends, he has earned his notches on his own terms.
He has recently again teamed up with his brother Armand to form the DJ/Producer duo of the PENA BROTHERS.
