Description
A Latino-American rapper who melds vivid lyricism with dark and melodic beats, Ramirez emerged in the mid-2010s with an evocative sound that combines elements of West Coast rap, cloud rap, and Southern trap.
Originally operating under the RVMIRXZ moniker, the San Francisco native developed his style, which also draws inspiration from horror and anime, as a member of Louisiana's G59 Records alongside prolific New Orleans rap duo $uicideboy$. Beginning with 2013's Trillity, he issued a string of expansive and diverse mixtapes including Pharaohs (2014), Latino Heat (2015), Blood Diamonds (2015), and Meet Me Where the River Turns Grey (2016). He appeared on multiple EPs and singles as well, aligning himself with contemporaries like $uicideboy$ ("G.R.E.Y.G.O.D.S" and "G.R.E.Y.G.O.D.S. I.I."), Yung Gravy ("The Boys Are Back in Town"), Ghostemane ("Bermuda"), and others. Subsequent mixtapes World War and Grey Gorilla, both issued in 2017, and 2018's Blood Diamonds 2 continued to make waves within the scene, but it was 2019's lauded Son of Serpentine, which featured guest spots from Pouya and Zillakami (City Morgue), that brought Ramirez into the mainstream. He capitalized on that momentum in 2020 with the singles "Voices in the Dark" and "Tales from the Guttah.
