Throughout his ten years of experience behind the decks, Nitin has established himself as a sonic force in the electronic music scene, rocking dance floors from coast to coast in North America. A connoisseur of all things house and techno Nitin always has his ear to the ground and has crafted a fresh, intelligent and dirty electronic sound.
As evidenced by his varied sets, Nitin draws on a range of influences. An eclectic list of artists such as Egyption Lover, Nucleus, Underground Resistance, Masters at Work, Moodyman, Rob Hood, EPMD, Public Enemy, Jeff Mills, Steve Bug, Pet Shop Boys and Sade have been inspirational to him. He adeptly blends influential early techno, house, hip hop and electro music with the sounds of today by incorporating material from hot new producers.
While his programming, experience and technical prowess elicit respect from those in the trade, it is his ability to work any dance floor into a frenzy that sets him apart. Hailing from London, Ontario, Nitin loved being around music from an early age, and by age 15 he had made a trip to Record Time in Detroit and had started DJing. Nitin quickly became a pioneering member of London’s dance music community, assuming the role of DJ, promoter and proprietor of the now defunct Saxaphone Records.
Since moving to Toronto in 2005, he has parlayed his experience into the Marketing Director role at GEM Events, which has asserted itself as one of Canada’s premiere entities specializing in world class electronic music events. Alongside GEM founder, Craig Pettigrew, Nitin has been responsible for producing and for promoting several arena sized shows with DJ Tiesto in Canadian major urban centers, and the weekly talent showcased at Toronto’s massive CiRCA Nightlclub. GEM has also produced the annual “BPM Festival” in Mexico that features a complete holiday package for dance music enthusiasts with full-scale music events. Nitin is also co-founder of AFE Society, a cutting edge independent event production team, which this spring launched a new clothing line for designer T-Shirts. With his passion for event production, for the last 3 years Nitin has helped throw and DJed official after-parties during the Detroit Electronic Music Festival.
Always driven by a thirst for new musical movements and evolving sounds, Nitin’s robust record collection has been the propellant for many legendary sets that, despite their mass appeal, remain infused with his signature blend of quirky selections. From the dust of warehouse raves to historical venues like the Shelter, Nitin has performed alongside countless house and techno legends including Richie Hawtin, John Aquaviva, Mark Farina, Stacey Pullen, Derrick Carter, Misstress Barbara, Dubfire, Steve Lawler, Victor Calderone, Trentemoller, and Danny Tenaglia. Ready to throw it down for any crowd, Nitin is guaranteed to enthuse listeners with his signature blend of quirky machine-funk.
