Description
Neo¹, aka Totally or Neo Davis, is a rare breed of DJ that has been rockin out speed garage since the Summer of 1999 and has been growing his potential producing his own tracks over the past few years, with releases on labels such as Atomic Zoo Recordings & Breakz R Boss Records in Calgary, Backzide Records in San Francisco, Bass Bong Records, Vancouver and Bass Hound Records in Seattle. Not only does Neo specialize in warping dirty basslines, he is also fond to breaks, funky house, 4x4 and bassline house. The night that Neo fell in love with speed garage with its warping bassline driven beats was a night back in 1998 when he witnessed Dave Armstrong and Norrie Taylor (Prime & Seven respectively) dj a tag set @ Northern (A rave on Vancouver Island) and they totally destroyed the dancefloor with basslines, dirty grooves, time stretched vocals and shuffley beats keeping everyone begging for more. He knew at that moment that he didn't want to be there just to dance his ass off all night along, he also wanted to be a part of the scene on the other side of the turntables, packing dancefloors, interacting and hyping up the crowd into a frenzy. Intrigued by this original 'new' sound of house with shuffly drum patterns infused with drum and bass style warpin basslines, Neo and a couple of friends decided to get a pair of old turntables and a 2 ch. mixer with no eq. and started playing around with a few different genres including speed garage, house, breaks, hip-hop, hardhouse and trance. Neo was sparked by the diverse styles from many European and North American artists such as Prime & Seven, Dj Czech, DJ Rid, Armand Van Helden, 187 Lockdown, Jeremy Sylvester, DJ Pooch, Sol Brothers and Tony de Vit and is more recently influenced by artists such as The Wideboys, Gigi Barocco, Heavyfeet, AC. Slater, Black Noise, Kelevra, Hirshee, Agent X and the list goes on and on.. Most of Neo's first gigs were playing up and down Vancouver Island at raves, house parties and nightclubs such as Hush, Sweetwaters and The Press Room to name a few. In late '99 Neo met his best friend d-Set (Brent Kral) and you can regularly catch the 2 ripping it up together playing tag sets and occasionally the rare 2x4 set ! This duo can now be found in the Bassline Laboratory producing under the alias Funk'n Ruff. For several years (00-03) Neo and his friends were throwing renegade parties and the occasional club nights under the names Vintage Prod. and DavisHouse Prod. Come out and witness Neo animating dancefloors across Vancouver Island, the Lower Mainland and the Okanagan with his energetic dirty whompy basslines and seductive vocals. With all his energy behind the decks he's sure to make you move your body all night long to the Bass Heavy sets tuned to the funky sounds of jackin' house, breaks and garage and the Wompy bassline driven beats of speed garage, bassline and 4x4.
