Description
Master of numerous music industry disciplines, Menno de Jong has already etched as many notches on the dance tree as someone twice his age. He has recorded for some of Europe’s biggest Trance labels and is the founder of lauded Dutch independent imprint, Intuition Recordings. A bona-fide Podcast pioneer, he’s produced and presented the widely-syndicated, much-downloaded Intuition Radio show for the last 5 years. In 2009 he went back into DJ Magazine’s Top 100 Chart for the fourth successive year (at No. 56) and near-simultaneously took the No.13 position in TranceAddict’s Biggest 250 Trance DJs Poll. With his “Trance in the broadest sense” DJ and production mindset he is, without question, the next challenger to the Dutch dance throne.
Born into a musical family it was a natural step for Menno to start experimenting with the array of equipment gathered in his father’s studio. In 2004 he launched his production career in propitious fashion when his very first track ‘Guanxi’ was inked to Anjunabeats. The devoted music workaholic, Menno has continued to summon one rapturous moment after another from his studio. ‘Magma’/‘Momentum’ and ‘Sjamaan’ were released on Fundamental (in 2005 & 2007 respectively), while ‘Tundra’ (2005) and ‘Nolthando’/ ‘Solid State’ (2007) have provided rocket fuel for his own label Intuition Recordings. Following a short break to graduate from university he continued to build his production profile in 2009 with ‘Last Light Tonight’. A re-collaboration with Leon Bolier, it was marked up by DJ Magazine as having “a sonically-perfect production” and as being “unquestionably a track to seek out”. On the remix side, he has re-formed tracks for (amongst others) The Thrillseekers, Karen Overton & Mark Otten and most recently rewired Alex M.O.R.P.H.’s ‘No Regrets’ to skyscraping effect.
Menno began mixing at a very early age, but at the age of 17 he threw himself into DJ’ing full-force. In the last four years he has successfully scaled the upper echelons of the DJ hierarchy, with four successive positions in the Top 100. De Jong has played at clubs and events that are themselves virtually interchangeable with the phrase ‘Electronic Dance Music’. Inside his home country Mysteryland, TT Festival and naturally Trance Energy have all heard his auditory power and witnessed his highly-refined mixing style, as have Nature One in Germany, Electric Daisy Carnival in LA, Loveparade San Francisco, Amnesia in Ibiza, WMC in Miami and the UK’s Gatecrasher & Creamfields festivals. In 2009 he became Godskitchen’s Global Gathering world tour resident; a position that saw him smash GK festivals in Poland, Belarus, Russia, the Ukraine and ultimately the UK. He has DJed with some of the biggest names in the electronic dance scene and is as much at home spinning with Trance luminaries like Armin van Buuren & Tiësto as he is with house and techno dons like Deadmau5 and Carl Cox. With his 100watt smile, energetic style and omnipresent audience contact, he continues to share his passion for evocative melodies and dance-floor decimating beats with clubbing audiences worldwide.
To the Dance music industry Menno is nearly as well known as a radio DJ as he is a club one. Forming the leading-edge of the internet radio and podcast phenomenon, he launched his Intuition Radio Show back in early 2005. The weekly episodes rapidly became required listening for the internet’s music-hungry hoards, with Menno laying down the very best in Dance music. Following a short spell as a Monthly, Intuition returned to its weekly fixture in the summer of 2009, heralded on the first Wednesday each month by a special XXL edition. Accessible via the internet on DI.fm & ETN.fm it can also be caught on the airwaves through (amongst others) the Dutch radio station XFM. It also notably became one of iTunes’s first Podcast download click-smashes – a position it retains to this day.
