Description
Grammy nominated Melbourne contemporary soul outfit, Hiatus Kaiyote is a collaboration between four individuals (Nai Palm/singer-guitarist, Paul Bender/bass-production, Simon Mavin/keys-synths, Perrin Moss/drums-production). Their sound references a swathe of influences - electric, acoustic, futuristic, psychedelic, progressive, soothing and urgent - slipping in and out genre and defying definition.
Signed to Salaam Remi’s Sony imprint Flying Buddha, the past 12 months has seen them make a rapid trajectory from share-house studios to sell out shows around the world after releasing their debut self-produced album Tawk Tomahawk.
With a swag of awards in 2013 including Best Breakthrough Artist at Giles Peterson's Worldwide Awards and The Age Music Victoria Best Emerging Artist, as well as nods from soul royalty (Prince, Pharrell Williams, Erykah Badu, Ahmir “?uestlove” Thompson, Common, DJ Jazzy Jeff), it was a collaboration on a new version of “Nakamarra" with A Tribe Called Quest legend Q-Tip on their re-release of Tawk Tomahawk which earned them a Grammy nomination for Best R&B Performance, making Australian history as the first band to be nominated for any R&B category.
