Hip Hop Heart with a House Head!
From an early age Donnie has always had an obsession with music. “I remember stealing CD’s from my uncle when I was like 10 years old. Some good ones like Westside Connection, Dr. Dre and a bunch of Stones and Jimmy Buffet cds”. He has always had music in his life. Every phase of his life he has drawn on a different genre. Just watching one set from the rising upcoming DJ, you can tell that his has the talent and the musical knowledge to make it far in this business! Drawing on a lot of his prior Hip Hop and Jam band type music, Donnie will take you on a funky and melodic ride through house music touching on some techno and minimal aspects also, using chunky hip hop basslines, the guitars, percussion and brass instruments of the jam bands to give you a musical treat that is fresh to the South Florida scene!
He really caught the bug for electronic music again when he moved back to Fort Lauderdale in 2008, “I’ve always loved dance music, seeing that I grew up with it down here. I remember the first time I step in the dj booth in 2008, WOW! I fell in love and wanted to learn how to do this!” Picking up the decks in the summer of 2009, Donnie quickly began to learn the basics of DJing. In no time he was rocking crowds and getting noticed from a lot of his industry peers. “Something inside of me just clicked when I touched the decks for the first time. I picked everything up very quickly and was way ahead of the learning curve. I was lucky to have the opportunities I did but I earned my time as a promoter and developing a good following before I even touched the decks in a nightclub.”
2012 brings about new production partners, Ivan Avila and Le Brion. In the short time the trio has worked together they have developed a unique sound and groove. With their debut release Special Occasions EP forthcoming on Behold Recordings, expect big things from the production trio.
