If you are listening to DJ Jason Vernau, prepare for a musical journey. Vernau was introduced to the house music industry in the early 1990's where he was inspired by artists like Danny Tenaglia, Keoki, Dave Seamen, Chemical Brothers, Fatboy Slim, Pete Tong at numerous underground events in New York City and Orlando Florida. Vernau still remembers the day he decided to pursue his DJ career as the day he went to see world renown DJ Sasha play in Orlando @ The Beacham Theater. Little did he know, just a few years later, he would be playing with Sasha at one of the world’s largest music festivals, Zen.
Vernau’s passion for music spilled beyond the turn tables when in 1995 he opened one of the most successful record stores: The Drop Shop. He had a list of all-star DJ clientele that shopped there regularly and it quickly became one of the largest independent record stores in North America.
For years Vernau captivated clubbers and partygoers at nightclubs such as Visage, Firestone and Icon, where he held residencies. He was realizing his dreams on a different level when he started playing for large festivals such as Zen and Ultra Music Festival. Soon after, Vernau was being booked internationally, playing in cities all over Europe and South America alongside those who inspired him like Sasha and John Digweed, Paul Oakenfold, Taylor, BT, Crystal Method, Sharam, Tom Novy, Rabbit in the Moon to name a few.
“Whether it’s 100 people or 20,000, you have to feel the music and the crowd in your soul,” says Vernau. In 1997 took his musical dream to Miami and quickly started being recognized by club owners for his distinct musical style. In 1999, he played @ the first Ultra Music Festival during the Winter Music Conference & opened up for Hybrid in front of a crowd of more than 10,000 people.
Today Vernau’s music continues to make waves across many cities around the world, but especially in Miami where he currently has residencies at infamous venues like Set, Nikki Beach and Mynt Lounge. In addition to his musical talents, Vernau produces some of the hottest events that make Miami nightlife. He is behind 2 successful pool parties: Saturdays @ Fontainebleau and Sundaze @ Shore Club. Sundaze, where Vernau plays for locals and tourists from all over the world, has been going strong for almost 2 years. Recently in Washington DC, Vernau had the honor of playing for the United Nations Blue Refugee Agency for a global charity cause. Upcoming, you can find Vernau rocking the house at the 7th annual Independence Surfcomber Sundance Pool Party. Vernau will be sharing the stage with DJ’s Victor Calderone, The Martinez Brother, Behrouz and Rony Seikaly. Anyone who visits DJ Jason Vernau at his parties or knows his music will say the same.
