Description

If you're a child of the 80's you might get the name check from the newest edition to the G.E.D. Soul cavalcade of artists. That's "Jigga-watts" as in "1.21 Jiggawatts" as Doc Emmett Brown said to Marty McFly in those classic movies about time travel to and from the future. A.J. Eason has been dropping soul bombs on stages throughout the south east for over a decade in a number of different groups (including our very own Coolin' System). We've always admired Mr. Eason's style and straight up bombastic personality, I mean, honestly, the man knows how to rock the mic and get people moving. His latest project pairs him with heavy hitting musicians from Nashville disco-funk stalwarts Deep Fried Five as well as folks from the Coolin' System and Sky Hi. This eclectic combination of players capture a sound that lives comfortably in the space between funk and soul, but shares a bathroom with rock n roll. Thus, we present the Rock n Soul of A.J. & The Jiggawatts. Be on the lookout for their debut 45RPM to be released online & at shows on April 10th, 2012: "A great old school slice of funk – with these call-response vocals between AJ and the band – all very much in a James Brown People Records mode! The groove here has a very People-styled sound, too – razor sharp drums that seem to snap all the other instruments into place, too – urged on strongly by the calls in the lead! "Pimp Decisions" is looser, but in a really groovy way – with wangly guitar over skittish drums, and this cool production on the vocals that make them sound kind of muddy and noisy!" -Dusty Groove (Chicago, IL)
