South London Ordnance Details
Joining the dots between driving Dub Techno, classic Acid and earthy, reduced House music – South London Ordnance has spent the last few years developing a unique voice as both a DJ and a producer.
2014 saw the young artist settling into his stride, whether on the larger international stages or playing smaller, more boutique events. Shows were spread across the UK, Europe and North America and as a wildcard at Richie Hawtin’s ENTER. party, SLO joined a handful of the biggest names in dance music to play both in Ibiza over the Summer and in January at the BPM festival. An excellently received podcast for Resident Advisor hinted at an ability to fuse powerful ambient pieces and warped experimental House, alongside deep Techno cuts – eschewing en vogue grayscale linearity in favour of rich texture and groove. The Contact EP, released via Scuba’s Hotflush Recordings as a follow up to 2013?s Revolver, received widespread support across the board from Surgeon to Maya Jane Coles, DJ Deep to Adam Beyer and Sven Våth. The producer’s own label, Aery Metals, remains a home to the artist’s deeper productions, but also saw the first external artist welcomed into the fold in the shape of Brooklyn based Techno producer, Max McFerren.
In 2015 South London Ordnance returns for a series of releases that offer a much more refined, but altogether grittier sound. Released in March this year, the latest SLO single on Aery Metals Sex Fortress garnered support from the likes of JD Twitch, 2562, Laurent Garnier and Ewan Pearson. Drawing from a classic Techno framework, but referencing Industrial, Minimal and Cold Wave music – SLO appears to have found a degree of comfort in his productions. An aesthetic that satisfies club leanings, but leaves the door open for more cerebral textures and interesting collaboration. Re amped electronics meet live drums and twisted vox, it’s a sound that places the artist more in line with previous remixer Nik Void and current collaborators, Kill The DJ singer C.A.R. and Finnish outsiders Femme En Fourrure.
DJ sets continue to develop and texture remains key to the young artist’s performances. As comfortable both on the big stages playing high energy peak time slots as he is rolling out longer sets for patient crowds, hard work and presence of mind has paid dividends over the last few years.
Releases in 2015 include several singles on Aery Metals as well as a full EP on Hotflush. Remixes and compilation features TBA also.
