Of The Trees Details
Hailing from Portland, Maine, Of The Trees is the organic bass music project of Tyler Coomb. While the producer has been making music for a decade, 2015 was the year he first turned heads in the electronic world. That was the year Bassnectar released his Into The Sun LP, which included an official remix Of The Trees and Psymbionic’s “One Thing,” featuring Christina Soto. With this huge platform, Coomb wasted no time in releasing his debut album followed by a collaborative effort with Deltanine.
But Of The Trees didn’t really start gaining notoriety until recently, which CE predicted in last year’s 2019 Artists To Watch For series. In April, Coombs began to see things happening for him after signing with Boulder-based management Madison House, who also represents Bassnectar and many other industry greats. Since then, he’s toured with Minnesota, played Wakaan Fest, Nightfall, and Meow Wolf Dark Palace, and has recently announced 2020 bookings at both Envision and Electric Forest‘s tenth anniversaries.
Now, Of The Trees has reached another career milestone in the form of a brand new EP release, titled Tanglewood. Following up on 2018’s Harvest EP, the new 5-track short player is everything fans have come to love about Of The Tree’s ambient musical catalog. Composed of calming downtempo creations—with whispering melodies, crawling bass lines, and intelligent arrangements which oscillate between organic and mechanical—Tanglewood is reflective and immersive.
From the masterful introduction into Of The Trees’ world on the EP’s title track, to the harrowing back-and-forth lo-fi samples between nature and technology, to the standout Supertask collaboration, which Coombs debuted at Wakaan Fest, the entire project represents a journey that doesn’t backdown or relent. At the same time, it’s amorphous, resonant, and meditative. Soothing chill-out music at it’s finest, Tanglewood is meant for easy background listening while at home, on the trailhead, or in the middle of the field at music festival.
