Kazell Details
Kevin Bazell, known throughout the music industry as Kazell, has established a loyal worldwide following for his sound, best described as a unique mix of tough, funky and soulful grooves .
A UK native and LA transplant, Kazell first arrived on US shores in 1991. Back then, parties were harder to come by; good music was even more difficult to secure. No Internet and no downloads; this was old skool. Kazell was an unknown, but full of promise. He embraced his new digs and shipped over all his favorite records; within weeks, he was DJ’ing in Miami and around the East Coast. People responded quickly to his sound—an electric fusion of dub, tribal, and breaks over a techno-house base. In Atlanta, he quickly became a favorite resident at Liquid Groove, now known as Liquified. After a few years on the East Coast, Kazell relocated to Los Angeles.
True to form, within months of Kazell’s arrival, he’d secured residencies at the largest clubs and parties on the West Coast, including Spundae- L.A., Giant, and he currently, at Avalon. Less than a year after moving out to the West Coast, Liquified followed suit and moved head operations to Los Angeles. Kazell was immediately re-enlisted as their resident DJ for all events, including the now-legendary Sasha & Digweed Liquified parties. In fact, Kazell was the only DJ heavy-hitters like Sander Kleinenberg, Deep Dish, and John Digweed would play with while in L.A.
These days, Kazell has transitioned from “the hottest [DJ] in warm-up” ( LA Times), to a peak hour, headliner playing worldwide and most recently touring London, South America, Japan, Mexico and beyond. In addition to all of this, Kazell’s balancing a host of U.S dates, and his own, bi-monthly Influx Audio nights at Avalon Hollywood.
Kazell’s sound is heavy on the basslines and dirty synths, but these are just the tip of his production talents. His first release, Driven, was voted “best compilation of the year” by Jive Magazine. His work has appeared on the UK’s top labels, such as Global Underground, Lost Language and his own Influx Audio Imprint. Kazell's music has been featured on several compilation CD's including Sander Kleinenberg's Renaissance and Nick Warren's GU Paris.
Last year saw Kazell collaborating with some of the Los Angeles most prestigious Film composers , Harry Gregson Williams brought in Kazell to add his own twist on the sound design for the upcoming Disney film “Prince Caspian.” Kazell has also been busy in the studio putting together a new band project which is expected to tour in early 2009...
This year Kazell will be joining Sasha and John Digweed's Spring Club Tour.
